University of Findlay?s 11th annual Comedy Jam set for January 26

FINDLAY, OH (Press Release) - Three headlining comedians will target Findlay with their humor on Saturday, January 26.? Appearing at Central Auditorium, they promise a sure cure for boredom, cabin fever and the winter doldrums.

11th Annual ?Comedy Jam,? sponsored by The University of Findlay?s Campus Program Board, will feature an evening of stand-up performances and a theatrical memorabilia auction with proceeds benefitting Broadway Cares, a privately funded non-profit organization that awarded more than $10 million in grants in 2012.

The evening?s comedy emcee will be actor and comedian Shawn Felipe.? He?s been featured on Sprint Comedy Time Network, History Channel and National Lampoon Comedy Radio and has appeared as an actor on numerous television commercials and on NBC?s cop TV series ?Hawaii.?? Felipe has taken his live stand-up to audiences in the U.S., Singapore, Canada, Japan and the Middle East. In 2011 Felipe was recognized as the ?Top 7 Comic? at the 36th Annual San Francisco International Comedy Competition. In addition to comedy, Shawn is a musician who was recognized for Best New Artist at the ?2008 Hawaii Music Awards.? In 2004 he was recognized as The Best Take Out Comic in Hawaii. His new release, ?Someday This Will be Funny? will be available on CD in the near future.

The featured comedian will be Samuel Comroe.? One of nine children growing up in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, Comroe turned to comedy to combat bullying in elementary school.? He is currently a house regular at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank and performs regularly at comedy clubs around Los Angeles.? Comroe was also a Top Ten Finalist in the ?NBC Stand Up for Diversity? showcase. In November 2012, Sam won The Ricky Gervais Just Sayin App Comedy Competition. He also made his TV Debut on ?Conan? in November. Comroe has been busy touring and opening for comedians: Joey Medina, Tom Green, Gallagher, Don Friesen and James P Connolly.

Headliner for the evening is actor and comedian Arvin Mitchell, former co-host of BET?s ?Club Comic View? and host of ?Spring Bling 21 Questions.?? Mitchell has been a major draw on the U.S. college circuit.? He has also spread the laughter to U.S. Military troops in Stuttgart, Germany and has headlined for the Marshall Faulk Charity Extravaganza and The Kentucky Derby Gala Reception. His comedic style appeals to both urban and mainstream, young (and not so young) audiences. Arvin can often be found performing in comedy clubs in New York, Boston, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

?Campus Program Board is so excited to be able to host an auction during Comedy Jam that will really appeal to anyone who loves Broadway and theater arts,? said Sharinda Welton, UF?s director of student activities, commuter services and leadership development.

Items up for auction will include Broadway cast-autographed posters from ?RENT,? Disney?s ?Mary Poppins,? ?The Book of Mormon,? ?Chaplin? and ?Once.?? Playbills from 2004?s ?Thoroughly Modern Millie? (starring Dixie Carter) and ?How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying? will also be on the auction block along with other Broadway memorabilia.? Guest emcee for the fundraiser will be Ohio Senator Cliff Hite.?

?So many people in the Findlay area know Senator Hite that I?m sure he?ll draw an audience of his own,? added Welton.? ?We?re so appreciative that he?s willing to donate his time and talent for this great cause.?

Proceeds from the auction will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, a non-profit organization that funds the social service work of The Actors Fund and awards grants three times a year to AIDS service organizations nationwide.

?All three comedians have performed in NYC and are familiar with Broadway Cares? mission. They are thrilled to be a part of the University of Findlay?s ?Comedy Jam? tradition while making history by being the first comedians to showcase with this worthwhile cause,? said Welton.

At the conclusion of the show, all comedians will be available for a meet and greet, autographs and pictures.

The Campus Program Board is promoting Comedy Jam as a ?PG-13? show, family friendly for teenagers and older.? Pre-sale tickets are $10 and available at the UF Box Office located in the Alumni Memorial Union on campus.? Credit cards are accepted. The box office phone number is 419-434-5335.? Tickets at the door are $15, cash only.? Doors open at 7:30p.m. and show time is 8p.m. There will not be a bad seat in the house as there will be two giant video screens connecting the audience to the show the entire evening.
